New electricity bill in Spain: change your pricing in June 2021

On 1 June 2021, when the heat is at its hottest in our country, the change to a new electricity bill is looming that will affect the way we use energy and the price we pay for it (both in traditional homes and in the smart homes of the future that we mentioned last month). We explain what the new electricity bill consists of.

New electricity bill: what changes are in store for your electricity tariff?

The new electricity bill, in force as of 1 June, will unify the six current tariffs into a single one, dividing the hourly rates into three, to which different prices will be assigned, with the clear objective of favouring energy efficiency and savings.

Thus, the three time periods of your new electricity bill will be: the peak or most expensive period, located between 10am and 2pm and 6pm and 10pm, the flat or intermediate period (from 8am to 10am, from 2pm to 6pm and from 10pm to midnight) and the cheapest period, known as the valley rate, in the early hours of the morning between 12pm and 8am.

How much power will I be able to contract? The electricity brackets on your new electricity bill in Spain

The aforementioned electricity tranches will allow consumers to contract two different power ratings, either for the peak and flat periods or for the off-peak periods of lower consumption, i.e. it will be possible to contract our electricity to regulate our consumption and maximise the use we make of light energy, distributing it evenly among the businesses and homes in our country.

The emergence of these electricity tranches will lead to the establishment of a voltage tariff, the so-called 2.o TD with power less than or equal to 15 kW, eliminating two of the three existing tariffs until May 2021.

With all these details, we can declare that, in view of this new electricity bill, our role as climate agents and the possibility of saving energy and money if we agree on a coherent energy activity in our homes increases exponentially.

Simpler and cheaper new electricity bill in Spain with a clear goal: sustainability

The new electricity bill, on two pages, will be simpler and more comprehensible as it will provide information on the maximum contracted power in the aforementioned time slots and a QR code will be provided as a comparator of the different energy offers available from the National Commission for Markets and Competition, all with the aim of saving energy and making a firm commitment to sustainability.
